About the
Darby Rodeo Association
The Darby Rodeo Association is a nonprofit, tax-deductible community organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the sport of rodeo and the Western way of life. Through high-quality rodeo events, support for youth competitors, and investment in our community, we strive to honor our heritage while building a strong future for rodeo
Keeping Tradition Alive

In 2009, Darby Rodeo Association (DRA) President Cal set out to revitalize the heart of Darby, Montana. With a vision deeply rooted in tradition and community, he led the restoration of the Richard Cromwell Memorial Rodeo Grounds, transforming it into a premier destination for rodeo, celebration, and connection.
A Vision Realized

More than fifteen years later, that vision stands strong—thanks to the dedication of countless volunteers and the generosity of sponsors. Today, Darby is home to a first-class rodeo facility that shines as a symbol of Western heritage. Recognized throughout Montana and beyond, the arena has built a reputation as a truly unique venue for rodeo sports and entertainment.
Rodeo With Purpose

DRA’s commitment extends beyond competition—it’s about making a difference. What began as the Elite Bull Connection, a partnership with Tough Enough to Wear Pink Montana and Wrangler, raised nearly $100,000 to support the cancer center at Bitterroot Health.

Recognizing that men face cancer too, the event evolved into the Twisted Nut Festival—a high-energy roughstock competition dedicated to raising awareness and funds in the fight against testicular cancer.
Leadership & Education

At DRA, the future of rodeo is just as important as its past.
Rodeo Royalty Program: Established in 2017, this program empowers young women to become ambassadors for the sport while building leadership skills that will benefit them for years to come. With the support of local businesses, DRA crowned its first Rodeo Queen and awarded its first rodeo scholarship.

Scholarships for Rodeo Athletes: Expanding its commitment to youth, DRA now provides an additional scholarship for graduating Bitterroot Valley rodeo athletes.

Youth Rodeo Support: As the proud host arena of the Ravalli County Jr. Rodeo Club, DRA ensures the next generation has a place to compete and grow—at no cost to youth rodeo participants.
